Indigenous Non-Instructional Day – November 12, 2020

The Vernon Teachers’ Association appreciates taking part in the Nov.12 Indigenous Non-Instructional Day. Though the key note speakers and sessions are virtual on this day, we give thanks to the Syilx people for the land on which we learn. For years, Indigenous people have endured and continue to endure challenges and adversity in our communities. As educators, we have an obligation to create space to discuss how the road to equality can be obtained here in SD22. As the District works on building cultural relationships through discussions around Employment Equity, Aboriginal Cultural Leave and the Equity Scan, the VTA looks forward to working closely with district and union partners on these crucial processes. Let this day be one of learning together and being open to creating a culture of equity and inclusion.
